A
small town near Kota, Bundi is located at the footsteps of a large craggy hill
and was named after Bunda Meena. Surrounded by the Aravalli hills on three sides,
Bundi is circumscribed by a massive wall with four gateways.
Bundi is located in the southern part of the state of Rajasthan and is 206Km
from Bundi and 36Km from Kota. The place offers the chance to explore its
unique culture with baoris , palaces & forts , lakes and the beautiful
natural surroundings. Bundi is known for attractive step wells and tanks which
are about 50 in number and mark the town's streets and bylanes. Interesting
monuments including impressive medieval forts, palaces, 'havelis', temples
and 'chhatris' with elegantly carved pillars, along with a picturesque lake
in the heart of the town, add to its appeal.
Bundi is also famous for the annual festival of Kajli-teej which is held
in July-August. Once a part of Kota, Bundi continues to be a place where life
is largely untouched by the outside world. One can shop for cotton carpets
at Nainwais, famous Kota paintings and Kota doria saries in Kota, Stone statue
art and wooden toys in Jhalawar and lac ki churi.
